Pianist and Teacher

Danae Turgeon began her studies in music at the age of seven. In 2021, under the guidance of Dr. Evgeny Chugunov, she attained a Bachelor’s degree in Music (Honours), receiving The Dean’s Scholar Award for graduating with the highest standing in music. Her love for the piano eventually led her to specialize in piano pedagogy and teaching.

Danae’s musical career has seen her excel as a collaborative pianist, a role that led her to formally establish the piano trio, Trio Turgeon, in 2018. In addition to her pianistic skills, Danae has earned recognition as an award-winning composer, often performing her original compositions in concert. She currently serves as a convener for the Composer Competition of the Alberta Registered Music Teacher's Association. In the fall of 2025, Danae will serve as a clinician for the Chinook School of Music's Performance Masterclass Series.

With a teaching career spanning 10 years, Danae has dedicated herself to guiding her students in expressing their humanity through the language of music. Her teaching philosophy is centered around instilling in her students a sensitive piano touch, one that mirrors the nuances of the human voice. This sensitivity is nurtured through a strong foundation in technique, enriched by artistry.

Currently based in Calgary, Danae teaches from her home studio in the Ranchlands area where she offers private piano, theory, and composition lessons. She also teaches piano and composition at the Chinook School of Music. Danae welcomes students of all ages, whether they are taking their first step on their musical journey or are experienced pianists seeking to refine their skills.
